Life Is Wonderful!!!!!

It's SO great to be happy & healthy! Not that we aren't both generally happy people, but I'm finally strong enough to socialize again (besides just short visits). YAY! We have so many great friends--I'm looking forward to seeing them all again!

Day 47 - A Legacy

Today started badly. Not that I ever really enjoy getting up at 5:00 to go to the gym, but we finally turned on the air conditioning and it responded by dropping the house into the nippy 60's overnight (note to self: double-check the thermostat every summer and winter as it obviously has its own opinion on things), then the guy who is the SOLE reason I don't swim on Tuesdays was at the gym. I realize he may be new to working out, but I think it should be fairly obvious that you have directional issues if you are running over other swimmers in 3 different lanes.

Then I somehow forgot to eat breakfast (an easy mistake since I've only been feeding myself for what...30-some-odd years), so I stopped for a stale bagel and coffee, where I ran into another salesperson. We had a rather depressing discussion about the economy, then on that cheerful note I went to my next appointment, where I proceeded to totally baffle my prospect with telecom jargon--which I am generally really careful not to do. I will be taking a translator with me on our next appointment.

A few minutes alone with my credit card and Amazon's website would have gone a LOOOOONG way today. It's probably a good thing we decided the Indian food packets were off limits--I'd probably be opening a restaurant tonight.

Luckily, the ever-wonderful Andy had planned an evening of Chinese food and a very special movie--Singing in the Rain. If it isn't my favorite movie of all time, it's darn close and it's the very first movie I ever owned. A movie theater downtown was giving a special screening tonight, and I am happy to say that the theater was so packed that they opened a second theater for the movie.

I can honestly say I have never had so much fun at a movie in my life. All through the movie, the audience clapped for all the musical numbers, laughed easily at the light, harmless humor that made fun of no one and wasn't at all mean-spirited, and cheered at the end. No cell phones went off, people smiled at each other on the way out of the theater, and I really truly believe that we all left the theater much happier people.

It was a nice reminder that we might encounter bad people, bad things, and bad situations in life, but it really is possible to make at least a small difference in the lives of others. That's a pretty good legacy.

Date Night

I married a saint.

Thursday we went to Menopause the Musical. If I was out of place being 37, you can imagine how Andy felt being one of about 10 men in the theater and by far the youngest one. There were a few jokes neither of us understood (and I really hope I never understand), but overall, it was a fun show that took well known songs and replaced the lyrics with witty takes on aging--"Puff, My God I'm Draggin', "If You Wanna Know Where the Fat Grams Go, It's on my Hips" (Shoop Shoop), "Good Vibrations"--very clever stuff.

Andy is off to kayak today to get back in touch with his testosterone. After that show, I'm guessing it will be an all-day affair.....
