Tonight, under the influence of chocolate martinis, we decided that in order to make our new spending habits totally and completely permanent, we will be doing a month-long spending ban every year. Just a little reminder of how few things we really need and to keep us from lapsing back into bad habits. I think we'll have to rotate the month around the year--I don't think I want to do it at Christmas every year. Not that it wouldn't save a lot of money, but I would like to take advantage of the after-Christmas sales some years. One can only recycle gift bags for so long before they become occasion-inappropriate. I think folks might start to notice if all gifts start appearing in wedding bags. Our friends are pretty sharp.
And maybe every year we'll use the money saved on trips and adventures....Sometimes bribery is a wonderful thing!
